How to identify who submitted work in a group assignment

I would like to identify who in the group submitted the work. To give the scenario, there is a group project where every student is required to submit files. However, I am currently unable to find the option to do that. Thank you so much in advance.

    Hello @sanoop.sadique@sait.ca,

Each time a user submits to the assignment folder, this is considered a submission. Within each submission, there is also the possibility that the assignment may accept single or unlimited files.

The scenario you are describing where multiple learners are responsible for contributing files to the Group Assignment could be accomplished in a couple of ways:

    A) If All submission are kept is the chosen Submissions option, then each member of the group may make a submission and you should be able to discern who has uploaded which files from the Users table of the Assignment Submissions page.

    B) If Only one submission allowed or Only the most recent submission is kept is the chosen Submissions option *and * Files Allowed Per Submission is set to Unlimited, the group member tasked with performing the submission can upload multiple files on behalf of the group and denote the group member responsible for each file in the submission as part of the file naming convention. example: [filename] - [group member].

Here is a screenshot of where you will find the Submission and Completion settings I'm referring to above

Having said all of that, the idea behind a group assignment is that the score assigned to the group will apply to all members of the group. However, you can choose to override individual grades at the user level within the gradebook if you so choose, but this is a separate step that would have to occur within the grade book.

    I hope that helps!

    Hi sanoop.sadique@sait.ca

Thanks for sharing your inquiry in the Brightspace Community.
I'm sorry if I misunderstood your question, but once you access a group assignment, there should be a column that discloses who submitted a file:

Please let me know if that answers your question or whether I can still help.

Thank you @Ricardo.S.110. Yes, you are right, we can see the submitter's name from the Submissions page. However, I normally browse the submissions using the Activity Evaluation page. The page looks like below:

Here I need to verify that there is one submission from each member of the group. We can ask learners to add their names to the filename as identifier however they miss it sometimes, as evident from the screenshot above. Then we will have to go back to the activity evaluation page and then come back for evaluation.

If we can add an option to see the submitter's details on the submission page it will be very useful. Thank you again for your answer.

  • Thanks for clarifying @Sanoop.S.889
