Hi everyone. I would like to set up my grades for a certain component to automatically select the best 4 marks out of 5 submissions. What is the best way to do this? TIA
 

For example, the students have an opportunity to make a posting each week for 5 weeks, but only their best 4 grades are required to add up to the component marks.

Is there a way to set that up so that it happens automatically, or do I just go in retroactively and make them exempt for their lowest graded posting?

Hi @Carri-Ann Scott​ so you can use a formula grade item to do that calculation in the grade book - you'd need to name it something descriptive like overall score for posts, but the actual formula should be something like in the examples in this link: https://distancelearning.elgin.edu/d2ltutorials/d2l_10_3_faculty_guides/en/creating-formula-in-grades-formula-editor.html best, Sophie

If the 4 (or 5) submissions are the same point values, the easiest way is to create a grade category. You can automatically set it to drop the lowest x (1) number of grade items.
