Hi everyone,

 

I've recently changed roles within my org, moving from content development (learning technologist) to instructional design. Whilst I have a masters in online and distance education and have been undertaking lots of development to upskill myself in terms of learning theories and models, I was wondering if you have any tips for me?

 

I'm also interested in exploring how we can deliver personalised learning within Brightspace -- I'm quite familiar with tools such as release conditions, replace strings etc. However, I would be interested to learn more about how you've delivered personalised curriculums/learning pathways within Brightspace.

    Hi Danny! Congratulations on the new role! 😀 In order to create personalized learning pathways, you can use release conditions that are associated with different tools such as assignments, and quizzes that can be set to release different content depending on the learner's knowledge. The following community article gives you more detail on creating a custom learning pathway in a course. Additionally, read the articles that are within this group since many of our ID team members are active and sharing wonderful ideas and information for you to refer to!

    Hey Danny! Check out @Lynsey Duncan​ 's article [Archived Content] Intelligent Agents Templates: Increase Instructor To Learner Engagement.

     

    As mentioned in the article, some studies are starting to show that, in online courses, the most important type of engagement for learners is between instructors and learners. Intelligent Agents (IAs) send a message to learners, making them one way to boost individual interaction with your learners without requiring a lot of extra effort (initial set up often takes less than 5 minutes!), then they work all on their own, in the background of a course.

    Hi @Lynsey Duncan​ ,

     

    In this [Archived Content] article, you mention you can send 'automated messages through the Announcements tool instead'. Do you have any instructions on how to do this, as I can't seem to find the option in the intelligent agents or announcement tools?

    Hi @Danny Ball​ The idea of sending automated messages in Announcements relies on Release Conditions available in the Announcements tool. In Announcements, your options for release and customization are slightly more limited than Intelligent Agents but can still be a great way to share out news, instructions, or support when learners meet certain criteria in the course. The one downside of Announcements is you can't control the scheduling or the repetition of messaging as you can with Intelligent Agents. Hope that helps!

    Thanks for clarifying. The article made it sound like it was possible to post an announcement using the intelligent agent tool, rather than it sending an email – this could be quite useful in some circumstances 💭 Yes, the release conditions for the announcements tool are somewhat limited in comparison. Thanks again.
