Grade passback from D2L to SIS (non-Banner)
I understand that IPSIS supports Banner as one of the integration types for Gradebook. We are not a Banner institution, but we are exploring the possibility of building a middle layer that mimics Banner’s API structure and behavior.
Given that, I have a few questions:
- Can IPSIS Gradebook be configured to use the ‘Banner’ integration type if the endpoints and payloads it interacts with match what Banner would typically provide?
- Are there any known technical constraints that would prevent IPSIS from working with a custom integration layer designed to push grades from D2L to a non-Banner SIS?
I’d appreciate any guidance or documentation you can provide on the feasibility of using a custom API to support a ‘Banner-type’ integration path.

Hi Diana,
Thank you for reaching out regarding your IPSIS Gradebook integration.
While I don’t have full details on the specific Banner Gradebook configuration, if the integration allows you to configure an endpoint and credentials, it’s reasonable to expect that, as long as your custom API returns the same responses as Banner, things should function as intended. That said, I’d recommend reviewing Banner’s documentation to understand exactly what requests and responses are expected—if there are any mismatches, the integration may not work as intended.
Because each implementation can vary, I recommend reaching out to your D2L account team. They can coordinate with our Implementation specialists to review your specific requirements and provide tailored guidance or documentation.

I hope this information helps!
