When reorganizing grade items, Brightspace currently requires instructors to assign numeric sort orders (1, 2, 3, etc.) to move items into a new position.
This workflow is cumbersome, particularly in courses with many grade items. Elsewhere in Brightspace (for example, in the Content tool), items can be reordered simply by dragging and dropping them into the desired location. That interaction is faster, more intuitive, and consistent with modern user interface design.
Please consider replacing (or supplementing) the current numeric sort-order interface with drag-and-drop reordering for grade items and categories.
Benefits include:
- Faster reorganization of grade items.
- Consistency with the Content tool and other areas of Brightspace.
- Elimination of unnecessary cognitive effort (instructors think "move this item here," not "change this item from position 17 to position 9").
- Easier management of courses where quizzes or assignments are added later in the semester and need to be inserted into an existing sequence.
Even if the numeric ordering option is retained for users who prefer it, providing drag-and-drop would make gradebook management much more efficient.
