What Is Social-Emotional Learning?

Social-emotional learning (SEL) is an educational practice that integrates social and emotional skills into teaching concepts. The goal is for students to develop knowledge, understanding and skills related to self-awareness, management and regulation of emotions, positive communication skills, establishing and maintaining supportive relationships, and making responsible and caring decisions. There are five core competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making.

How Is SEL Integrated into the D2L Adventure Digital Resources?

We integrate SEL by providing information about the five competencies and
ways that students can apply them within the course content. Students are given
examples of each of the five competencies and the content use examples and
characters to relate SEL to the content in our math courses. The content links to
pop-up pages that teach students about a specific SEL skill and gives them ideas
on how to incorporate those skills into their lives.

Check out the attachment below for more information and ideas on how to integrate SEL into your classroom. Let us know some of the ways you integrate SEL into your classroom in the comments section below!

As always, you can contact us to learn more, ask questions, or see a demo of the D2L Adventure digital resource material. We look forward to hearing from you!
