Question:

Does anyone know about using Edge Read Aloud (text-to-speech) in the Brightspace quiz tool. Currently, Read Aloud will only read the question number and possible answers, but not the question itself, as shown in attached screenshot:

2022-10-03_09-57-09I believe Edge Read Aloud used to be able to read the question.

Does anyone have any ideas or info on this?

Thanks,

Luke

Hi. How are you navigating? If you're just tabbing, then it will only read the answer choices. But if you turn on scan mode with the narrator key and space, the questions should be read. Let me know if that works. Carin

    Hi Carin,

Thanks (as always) for your help. I have checked and the quiz tool works as expected with Narrator, NVDA, and VoiceOver. The issue we are experiencing is with the Read Aloud tool built in to Edge browser. Given that the question text is being read by screen readers, I imagine the issue is with Edge Read Aloud specifically.

If anyone can check to confirm, when using Edge, Control Shift U launches Read Aloud.

    Thanks,

    Luke

Update: the same thing is occurring with Read&Write and Natural Reader.

IT is. I don't know why, but several read aloud tools do not have a good time with our quizzing tool. Read Speaker Text Aid will work with it, and I suspect Text Help can do it as well but I'm not sure. Carin

    Hi Carin,

Yes, I am finding out that there a couple oddities here and there. I could have sworn it was working nicely before.

Thanks for your time and expertise on this, as always.
