Hi everybody

We are working with LO in our university (Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia) and have been testing different ways to use it in order to have assessment information. We have build the learning outcomes programs for a variety of subjects: writing, administration, medicine...

In this process we have found an issue and want to ask the community how are you dealing with it.

The teachers have the permission to align LO with rubrics and activities, with that permission they can choose from all the available programs causing some confusion. The question is how do you manage this permission in your institution? Are teachers allow to chose programs in their courses? is this permission resticted to administrators?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

    Restrict to administrators.

At our institution (University of Maine) all instructors also have permission to download any and all program outcomes to their own courses. It is set up this way because we do not have enough administrative support to do all this downloading by request. We have focused on providing training to instructors so they know what they should be downloading. We only have a handful of departments using program outcomes at this point, so training has been manageable. I don't think it is currently possible, but we are hopeful that org-unit level permissions eventually become available which would restrict which program outcomes are available to members of a specific org-unit.

Hello Alejandro - In the learning outcomes tool today, all outcomes that are created in Programs at the org level are visible to all courses. In the future, we will have an ability to restrict visibility of those outcomes to only courses that are associated with the program. This visibility is not a permission issue at this point. From a permissions issue, you can provide instructors with the Manage Outcomes permission at the course offering org level and this will allow them to see the learning outcomes tooll, import outcomes or create outcomes in the course and create alignments of those outcomes to assessment activities.

    I hope that is helpful.
