Because I screwed up the date the first time, I'm sending this out again. Maybe it was an unintentional April Fools joke? Ha ha ha not funny. Hope to see you on April 1 for real this time. Carin -----Original Appointment----- From: Carin Headrick Sent: Thursday, March 25, 2021 9:40 PM To: d2l-a11y-group@lists.d2l.com; 0F961000000EdcyCAC@post.61-80toeaq.na34.chatter.salesforce.com Cc: Renee Judd; Sambhavi Chandrashekar; I-I Tsai; Bishop, Jeff - (jeffbis); Thomas Huijbregts; Scott W Vann (swvann) Subject: April Accessibility Interest Group meeting When: Thursday, April 1, 2021 11:00 AM-12:00 PM (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada). Where: https://d2l.zoom.us/j/92736363975?pwd=ckYxeFZiK3lib1NxMzc2WU1rekkydz09 Let's do this again, now with correct date. In case the time info gets broken, it's at 11:00 a.m. Eastern on April 1. I hope everyone is well. This session will be a bit different. Jean Parker, one of our members, has agreed to facilitate a discussion about making virtual learning experiences as inclusive as possible. The aim is a discussion in the intersection of technology and learning. We want to focus on strategies. The group may not find all the answers, but hopefully we'll leave with more than we came with. I hope people are feeling talkative because group participation is what is going to make things interesting. Here are some questions to get you thinking. How would you define inclusion? Of course this includes accessibility, but let's think even broader. What are some things to consider when trying to make something as inclusive as possible? What strategies can you think of to take some of these into consideration? What are three strategies that go a long way towards inclusion. Think about a time you had to implement strategies quickly to help promote inclusion of some kind. What did you do? How do you know when someone is feeling excluded if they don't express that there is a problem? Think of a type of inclusion you are not familiar with and come up with strategies for it. Here's a little information about Jean. Jean Parker is a qualitative researcher and online educator utilizing participatory research to build cohesive communities throughout the world. Her doctoral dissertation was on emergency preparedness learning through community radio in North Indian villages. Her book entitled: Emergency Preparedness Through Community Cohesion: An Integral Approach To Resilience, (Routledge, 2019),applies principles of constructive resilience to community-building, decision-making and community-based economic enterprise as necessary components of resilience and sustainability. Her research interests include community-based economic sustainability, integral research and development and the application of VUCA principles in community-building and the achievement of personal potential. She teaches business and economics at the Wilmette Institute in Chicago, and facilitates the Capstone research projects in the Global Nonprofit Leadership program at Regis University in Denver Colorado USA. In addition, she is the online program coordinator for the Desert Rose Bahai Institute where she oversees the expansion of the organization's programs into the online environment. Looking forward to a lively discussion. Carin [https://d2l.zoom.us/account/branding/p/95d2187d-8f1b-49fb-b9f0-093d2fa59523.png] Carin Headrick is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
