FAQ
Annual AI capacity explained
Annual AI capacity is designed to give an organization enough usage of AI based on their size so that they won’t exceed their consumption limit while still providing a layer of service protection from abuse. This value is set by D2L as part of enablement.
AI Consumption and Generations explained
AI consumption is tracked by a unit called a generation. Workflows in Brightspace may consume one or more generations. Generations are tracked independently of whether or not the items generated by AI were saved. The following list outlines how generations are tracked and reported:
- Each AI generated question is equivalent to one generation (requires D2L Lumi Pro for Brightspace).
- Each AI generated set of ideas for assignments is equivalent to one generation (requires D2L Lumi Pro for Brightspace).
- Each AI generated set of ideas for discussions is equivalent to one generation (requires D2L Lumi Pro for Brightspace).
- Each AI generated Practice is equivalent to one generation (requires D2L Lumi for Creator+; tracked separately in the Consumption Dashboard from D2L Lumi Pro for Brightspace).
Billing/rollover date explained
This is an organization’s contract and billing date. On this date, AI consumption resets back to zero. Historical usage data and reports remain unchanged. This date is set by D2L as part enablement.
Approaching and exceeding annual AI capacity
AI capabilities will continue to function even after the annual AI capacity is reached. Your D2L representative will connect with you regarding additional AI consumption so that AI capabilities will not become disabled in the future. If AI capabilities become disabled, the features remain in Brightspace but the elements are disabled. To remove AI capabilities from a course, adjust the configuration variables accordingly:
- For Generative AI, use the configuration variable d2l.Tools.GenerativeAI.isEnabled
- For AI for Creator+, use the configuration variable d2l.Tools.CreatorPlus.IsPracticesAIEnabled
