The Accessibility+ Accessibility Report provides a high-level summary of accessibility checks performed on course files in Brightspace. It highlights issues aligned with WCAG success criteria and offers detailed information instructors can use to improve course accessibility.
This topic explains how instructors can access the Accessibility Report, understand its findings, and use available information to ensure your course materials are accessible to every learner.
Important: This feature is part of the D2L Accessibility+ for Brightspace add-on solution that must be purchased separately. For more information, contact your system administrator.
Access the Accessibility+ Report
- Open the resource you want to evaluate in your course.
- The Accessibility+ icon appears above the resource. The icon color reflects the number of accessibility issues detected.
- Click the Accessibility+ icon to open the Accessibility Report on the right side of the screen.
Confirm file name
At the top of the Accessibility+ screen, you will see details about the selected resource, including:
- File name as stored in Brightspace
- Title of the file
These details help you confirm that you are evaluating the correct file before reviewing accessibility findings.
Understand the Accessibility Report Summary
Select the Accessibility Report tab to view a summary of the accessibility evaluation for the selected resource.
The summary includes the following elements:
- Score: A visual representation of the file’s overall accessibility. The score is based on the number of failed checks, the number of occurrences, and the applicable compliance standard—Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) or ISO 14289 (for PDF files).
- Checks: The total number of accessibility criteria evaluated. This number may vary depending on the file type (for example, DOCX, PPTX, or PDF).
- Passed: The number of checks that passed. No further action is required for these items.
- Failed: The number of checks that did not meet accessibility requirements. Review and correct these issues to improve accessibility.
- Manual: The number of criteria that require manual review. These items cannot be automatically validated and must be evaluated by the instructor.
View Checks and Accessibility Details
At the bottom of the report, each evaluated check appears in a list.

For each accessibility check, the report provides:
- Compliance level (A, AA, or AAA)
- WCAG version or ISO standards (for PDF files)
- Reference number, linking the issue to a specific WCAG guideline
- Description of the issue, summarizing what needs to be addressed
- Number of instances where the issue appears in the file and where they occur
This detailed view helps instructors understand the severity and location of accessibility barriers, allowing them to prioritize fixes effectively.
