The D2L Site Admins Affinity Network is a role-based network that brings together Site Administrators to learn from one another and share effective practices to help everyone be more productive.
Roles and Permissions Project
During Fusion 2023, members of the Fusion Steering Committee announced a survey regarding the configuration of Roles and Permissions at different D2L user organizations. The final report included only Higher Education organizations.
Focus groups met online to discuss the project and to help identify the desired outcomes. Project participants were asked to export and share their permissions for three different roles. Most orgs have many more roles, but the group decided to keep the data more manageable by focusing on these three roles:
- Instructor/Faculty
- Teaching Assistant
- One "weird or odd" role
Additional Data Collected
Data was also gathered on the following prompts:
- Do Faculty or Students lose access to Course Sites when the term has ended?
- Please describe a "weird or odd" role that you would like to share with other organizations.
- For integrations that require API and service accounts (not OAuth), do you leverage a single role for multiple vendors or a unique role per vendor?
- Please provide the name of the vendor that required API access.
- Does SIS or a similar system assign these types of roles?
- What is your strangest/craziest role?
- What is your process for decommissioning/deleting a role?
- If there was one area of Permissions that you wish had more granularity, what area would it be?
