Session Title: Dear Colleague: Getting buy-in for making content accessible
Session Summary:
Online accessibility for people with disabilities cannot be an afterthought. The joint Dear Colleague letter of May 19, 2023 from the US Department of Justice and the US Department of Education galvanized institutions into prioritizing accessible content for teaching and learning. Institutions might have different experiences in getting this done. In this session, we would like to share with you and learn from you. Here’s what we’ll cover:
- What the Dear Colleague letter tells us
- How we can create impact through content
- Barriers we discovered in our own organization
- Going beyond the letter of the law to embrace the spirit
- Best practices we’ve learned along the way
- Group discussion on strategies and experiences
