Ontario’s proposed Postsecondary Education Standards’ Digital Learning & Technology Recommendations.
Session summary:The Ontario government engaged a Postsecondary Education Standards Development Committee under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) in 2018, whose final recommendations report was posted online in 2022. Two members from the committee will present the Digital Learning & Technology recommendations from the report and discuss with the AIG members about the relevance of those recommendations to higher education institutions in general.
Speaker 1 bio:
Jennifer Curry Jahnke is the Principal Educator with AccessibilityConsulting.ca. As a digital accessibility expert, Jennifer is an active member of the Ontario AODA Postsecondary Education Standard Development and K-12/PSE Technical Committees, Accessible Canada Act’s Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Standard Development Committee, and the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) OPDC Committee.
Jennifer is an award-winning postsecondary educator and academic researcher. She is the creator of Mohawk College’s former Accessible Media Production graduate certificate program and micro-credentials. Jennifer has worked with academic institutions and organizations across Canada, where she continues to demonstrate her ability to build industry and academic relationships, making her a sought-after consultant, speaker, accessibility researcher, and grant lead.
Speaker 2 bio:
Sambhavi (Sam) Chandrashekar is D2L’s Global Accessibility Lead. She is a member of the Ontario AODA Postsecondary Education Standard Development Committee, the Global Leadership Council of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP), the 1EdTech Consortium’s TrustEd Apps Accessibility Task Force, the Advisory Council of the Canadian Accessibility Network, and the W3C Silver Community.
Sam is a recognized accessibility champion and an award-winning inclusive educator/researcher. She holds Adjunct Professor position in four Canadian universities and supervises Masters’ and PhD research. Sam is passionately focused on humanizing online education and building an inclusive education ecosystem.
