Hi, @kerry GLasier . I am the admin for National Louis University's D2L system. NLU has a large contingent of adult learners and is known for addressing the needs of this important group, so your question intrigued me.
We chose the Brightspace learning environment because it supported our approaches to online, blended, and web-supported course design. The Content tool is robust, allowing instructors and designers to create learning modules that sequence elements of a thematic unit or weekly module in a clear path to completion. Our modules have explanatory pages presenting an overview of the module and its activities and objectives. Our module pages include html pages with text and multimedia content, PDFs, and the occasional Word document. D2L tool items such as Discussions, Self-Assessments, and Assignments (for papers and other written work) also serve as sequential elements in the modules. Sometimes there is a checklist at the end which asks the learner to consider whether the outcomes and tasks of the module have been accomplished to the learner's satisfaction.
D2L has functionalities that we use to individualize the learning experience as well. We take advantage of selective release, groups and sections, and exemptions to enable a variety of learners to experience a version of a course that is right for that individual.
D2L also provides us with data to better understand how learners and teachers use the system and thus discover opportunities for course improvement.
I am not sure why you were concerned about the appropriateness for the adult learner, but I wonder if it might come from the K-12 version of the environment (Lessons, activity feed, parent features, etc.) that is prominently featured in recent release. I am hoping that our higher-ed, adult-focused version of the platform will continue to serve us well in the long-term.

Hi Renee You are right on the mark. I was conserved that it was aimed at high school students and not the adult learner but thank you for addressing this so quickly!
