I have an instructor that wishes to use badges in their course and at the end the students will be issued a certificate of completion. I am stuck on the release conditions for the certificate. Not all badges are mandatory to earn the certificate, the students must get any 2 of the first 4 modules, plus the badge for module 5 which is mandatory. I am a bit stuck on the release conditions for the certificate. Since they are not required to complete all of the modules things are a bit tricky. Would appreciate some ideas and advice. Thank you!

The way release conditions they would have to meet all the restrictions you list or just 1 of them. We can't currently set it up for 3 out of 5 or something like that.
If it is possible to setup the course so that they can't get into the mandatory one or last very last module until they complete enough stuff to pass the course then you could setup the cert based on completing the last part of the course.

If it is as little as 2 out of 4, that is only a combination of 6 pairs (1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 2-3, 2-4, 3-4). So potentially, You could create six hidden badges that meet the "pair" requirements and then create a displayed conditional badge that meets any of the six. The certificate would require that badge and the mandatory activity. Maybe you can come up with something simpler using Jonathan's suggestion but it could be worth a try. Let me know if it works!

An alternate solution is to use competencies (using Susan's approach taking into consideration the options), and the issue the badges based upon the competencies. We've done this using grades as well, and using the grade formula to manage more complex logical structures. It's all a bit ugly, but pretty magical when it works!
