I'm getting an increasing number of data requests to see how much time students have spent looking at different topics. However, my understanding is that I have to make the following assumptions:

 

  • If a user shows as never having accessed a topic, they definitely have not accessed it (either in Pulse or Brightspace) with their own account
  • If a user shows as having spent 0s on a topic, this means they probably accessed it in Pulse, which tracks the access but not time spent.
  • If a user shows as having spent 5 mins in a topic, we can assume that they had the page open for a total of five minutes in a browser, but may also have spent additional time there on Pulse which would not appear in this total.

 

Are those assumptions correct? If so, what is the best way to accurately report on access and engagement with particular topics?

- Does the 'Content Progress' information in the Class Progress tool include the times that users accessed the content in Brightspace Pulse?

- Am I right in thinking that the 'login history' does NOT include Brightspace Pulse, whereas System Access does?

- What exactly does System Access record? When does a user trigger a system access?

- On the Class Progress summary page, there is a column for Login History. If this excludes Pulse info, it is a bit misleading. Can this be configured to instead show system access?

 

If there's an article that explains all of this, could someone point me in the right direction. Thanks!

What I'm thinking is a table that has columns for the org unit ID, org unit type, org unit name, org unit code, number of students enrolled in that particular org unit, number of instructors, etc for each role in the LE. Even just students would be really helpful.

 

I did some checking and I don't think I saw one. If anyone has some ideas on how I might locate this information in a spreadsheet format, that would be great! I'm also willing to build something in our reporting tool, but would much prefer it in a data set. Thanks!
