At D2L, we are constantly updating our product offerings to bring new solutions and features to market. As part of the ongoing life cycle of product innovation, we sometimes discontinue the sale and support of certain products and services. That time will be coming for the Reporting Tool on January 1, 2022.
What is the Reporting Tool?
The Reporting Tool is our legacy reporting solution that allows you to create and download reports detailing system activity.
To provide you with greater flexibility to filter, aggregate, and transform your organization's data according to your reporting needs, D2L recommends using the Data Hub tool.
Why are we making this decision?
D2L is committed to innovation and creating a platform that enables inspired learning experiences. Unfortunately, legacy technology can hold us back from offering the best solutions. Removing functionality is always a tough decision, as we know there will always be some users who find value and utility in the feature provided. Technology is constantly changing, and all software requires maintenance to stay up to date with the latest devices, browsers and user expectations. At the same time, in the background, we need to stay on top of security and privacy concerns to protect user data in the cloud.
Due to low usage and limited functionality the decision was made to end of life the Reporting Tool.
What does this mean to me?
The first step will be to remove the Reporting tool from non-production sites on or about July 31, 2021. After July 31, 2021 you will no longer be able to use the Reporting Tool in a non-production site.
The next step, beginning in October 2021, will be the removal of the Reporting Tool from production sites where the tool is disabled or where no reports have been created/run in the last 12 months.
And finally, we will be removing the Reporting Tool from all remaining production sites on or about January 1, 2022. D2L will be carefully monitoring usage of Reporting Tool and will notify customers with active usage prior to disabling the Reporting Tool on Production sites and will assist with transition planning.
How can I tell if the Reporting Tool is being used on my Brightspace site?
When logging in as an Administrator, you can access the Reporting Tool (Select Reporting under Organization Related from the Admin Tools gear) and you will see the list of available reports. By selecting any of the reports you can find the Last Generated date (down at the bottom of the page).
