End of Life Date: July 1, 2022
At D2L, we are constantly updating our product offerings to bring new solutions and features to market. As part of the ongoing life cycle of product innovation, we sometimes discontinue the sale and support of certain products and services. That time will be coming for the Integration Pack for Synchronous Communication Tool and its related plugins on July 1, 2022.
What is the Integration Pack for Synchronous Communication Tool (IPSCT)?
The IPSCT (Online Rooms) Tool is our legacy web conferencing integration that allows you to create, schedule, and manage online rooms where users can join 3rd party sessions via Adobe Connect, Blackboard Collaborate, Lync, or WebEx.
To provide you with greater flexibility and user experience, D2L recommends using the various LTI options available. You can find more information on LTI Advantage here and can explore various collaboration and web conferencing options from the Brightspace IntegrationHub.
Why are we making this decision?
D2L is committed to innovation and creating a platform that enables inspired learning experiences. Unfortunately, legacy technology can hold us back from offering the best solutions. Removing functionality is always a tough decision, as we know there will always be some users who find value and utility in the feature provided. Technology is constantly changing, and all software requires maintenance to stay up to date with the latest devices, browsers and user expectations. At the same time, in the background, we need to stay on top of security and privacy concerns to protect user data in the cloud.
Due to extremely low and declining usage, as well as limited functionality the decision was made to end of life the IPSCT Tool.
How can I tell if the IPSCT Tool is being used on my Brightspace site?
When logging in as an Administrator, you can access the Organization Tools and confirm if the Online Room Framework and any other Online Rooms tools are enabled.
D2L will be engaging with all clients with usage within the last 12 months.
What does this mean to me?
The first step will be to remove the IPSCT tool from non-production sites on or about May 31, 2022. After May 31, 2022 you will no longer be able to use the IPSCT Tool in a non-production site.
The next step, beginning in June 2022, will be the removal of the IPSCT Tool from production sites where the tool is disabled or where no new online rooms have been created/accessed in the last 12 months.
And finally, we will be removing the IPSCT Tool from all remaining production sites on or about July 1, 2022. D2L will be carefully monitoring usage of IPSCT Tool and will notify customers with active usage prior to disabling the IPSCT Tool on Production sites and will assist with transition planning.
