With the 20.21.10 October release, we introduced a new major BDS version: 7.0 (d2l.Tools.BrightspaceDataSets.Version: 7.0). As our Change Management Policy indicates, we provide a 6-month adoption period for major changes because we recognize adopting major changes requires effort on your end to accommodate the changes in the data sets. Please keep in mind that the adoption period will end in April 2022 and anyone who has not already adopted version 7.0 will be migrated at that time.
Due to the impact to clients, major changes are something we try to avoid. However, another goal is to provide data access to our clients in a performant, complete and understandable way. In the upcoming major version 7.0, some columns will be added while others will be removed. Please note that the added columns will also apply to version 6.12 but the removed columns will only apply to version 7.0.
The following 4 Brightspace Data Sets (BDS) have been affected:
Checklist Category Details – removed Number of Items
We removed the NumberOfItems column as this count had the tendency to become incorrect – especially when checklists were copied. Additionally, we do not generally provide counts within Brightspace Data Sets – but instead provide you with the raw data. If you like you can calculate these counts for yourself.
Checklist Objects – removed Checklist Item Count
We removed the ChecklistItemCount column as this count had the tendency to become incorrect – especially when checklists were copied. Additionally, we do not generally provide counts within Brightspace Data Sets – but instead provide you with the raw data. If you like you can calculate these counts for yourself.
- Discussion Forums
- Removed: Visible Start Date, Visible End Date, Posting Start Date, Posting End Date
- Added: Start Date, Start Date Availability Type, End Date, End Date Availability Type
We have made these changes to reflect the updated visibility and posting restrictions for Discussions introduced in the August 2021 release.
Currently, the new dates functionality in Discussions is optional; however, in the December 2021 release, the d2l.Tools.Discuss.ConsolidatedDatesEnabled configuration variable will be permanently turned on. If the configuration variable is currently turned on, D2L recommends upgrading to the version 7.0 data sets in order for the columns in the updated data sets to be the same date fields as visible in the user interface.
If the configuration variable is currently turned off, D2L recommends continuing to use the version 6.x data sets. Please note - the newly added fields are populated even if the d2l.Tools.Discuss.ConsolidatedDatesEnabled configuration variable is turned off.
