I recently shared the news about ReadSpeaker's latest integration with Brightspace by D2L. With this new integration, you might have some questions, so our team has compiled an FAQ to help!
1. Does the webReader in Quizzes work like webReader in Content?
- Yes, it has the same functionality, tools and behaves the same. In quizzes, clicking on Listen will play only the one question.
2. Are the translate/dictionary/mp3 options available in quizzes?
- Yes, they are and located in the same location.
3. What if I don’t want the translate/dictionary/mp3 available in quizzes?
- Email support@readspeaker.com to have those specific tools turned off. Please note that if you have these tools turned off, they will also be turned off in Content, Assignments, and Quizzes.
4. Will I be able to have translate, dictionary, and download to mp3 in Content and NOT available in quizzes at some point in the future?
- Yes, this is in development and we will notify D2L clients of this feature when it becomes available.
5. I’ve updated to webReader 3.3, but I don’t see these new features, why and when will I?
- The new features will be rolling out in the FEB release and will be available in your test/production environment. Timing will depend on when your normal update wave takes place. Every D2L client should be fully upgraded by March.
6. Do I need to submit a support ticket to D2L to be upgraded?
- No, you will automatically be upgraded according to your normal update wave.
7. Are there any videos or training to help me understand the new features?
- Yes! Please visit these two YouTube videos: Assignments, Quizzes
8. Having webReader in quizzes is a problem with some of my courses. Do I have to turn webReader off for my entire learning environment or can it be controlled locally by the instructor at a course level?
- The instructor can turn webReader off on a course level by going under Course Administration>Tools and toggling ReadSpeaker webReader to the off position. Please see this video for instructions.
9. Do I still need TextAid?
- Yes, you still need TextAid to read discussions, rubrics, news, grades and other areas of BrightSpace.
10. Will webReader still work with our proctoring software?
- We are currently still testing with the various proctoring software. Since it is native inside the quiz page, there should not be any challenges. You may need to list that it is okay to use webReader in the proctor notes for the quiz/test.
11. What if I have more questions?
- Feel free to contact your ReadSpeaker account manager for any other questions you may have. We are always here to help!
